Male fertility: what a first assessment can tell you

Understanding the first test

Semen analysis assesses sperm number, movement and shape. A result outside the expected range may need a repeat test; it does not by itself describe every aspect of fertility.

When to seek advice

Arrange an assessment if pregnancy has not occurred after a year of regular unprotected intercourse, or sooner when there are known concerns. Both partners may need assessment. Bring previous results and questions to your appointment.

This is general information, not a personal diagnosis.
